About Pearland
Founded
in 1894, the
city of Pearland is one of the fastest growing communities
in the Houston metropolitan area. From a railroad switching station in 1893 to a city of more than 100,000 today, this is "where town and country meet." Pearland maintains all the advantages of a small town while enjoying the benefits of the fourth largest city in the US only 15 minutes away.
Pearland
is located adjacent to Highway 288 and Beltway 8, approximately
30 minutes from downtown Houston, 20 minutes from the Texas
Medical Center, 30 minutes from NASA's Johnson Space Center,
30 minutes from the Galleria area business and shopping district,
30 minutes from Minute Maid Park, home of the Houston Astros, and 20 minutes from where the
Houston Texans play and where the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is held, Reliant Stadium. Hobby Airport is only 15
minutes from Pearland's northern border.
The City of Pearland is governed by a City Council / City Manager form of government. Mayor Tom Reid and the five-member council meet twice a month. The following Pearland citizens serve on the City Council: Mayor Pro-Tem / Councilmember Scott Sherman (Position 2), Councilmember Woody Owens (Position 1), Councilmember Steve Saboe (Position 3), Councilmember Felicia Kyle (Position 4), and Councilmember Ed Thompson (Position 5).
